About the work:
Helen’s starting point for this work was glass salvaged from Mayflower Glass, a former glass factory in East Bolden that, in its prime, crafted tens of thousands of ships in bottles. The diamond-shaped frame; a form synonymous with value and preciousness, elevates the status of the ‘throw-away’ materials. This unique wooden frame, designed by Mark Rigelsford, functions as a top-loading light box. By repurposing materials that would otherwise end up in landfills, Helen brings awareness to seemingly non-precious or redundant ‘waste’, celebrating the value within all matter.
