Xin Gao

People feel ashamed to buy fast fashion but cannot resist the function and cheap price.

Chinese designer-maker, Xin Gao, confronts this issue by upcycling waste t-shirts and re-entering them into the market through modular design. With t-shirts being one of the most frequently used and discarded fashion garments, Xin uses waste t-shirts as the fundamental material for her dynamic modular pieces.

Exploring the interaction between products and people, Xin combines computer software, parametric design and handcraft work. She has meticulously designed two insert methods which make her work both three-dimensional and extendable in different directions.

Xin is a Jewellery design graduate from the Beijing Institution of Fashion Technology and MA Designer Maker graduate at the University of the Arts London.
